'The Betty Broderick Story' gets a fresh look from 'Dirty John' miniseries

Betty Broderick was the subject of high-rated TV movies in 1992 -- back when women who killed their ex-husbands, as she did, found notoriety on major networks, not Lifetime. A new limited series under the "Dear John" umbrella, "The Betty Broderick Story," offers a much more nuanced approach to the tale -- a welcome makeover buoyed by Amanda Peet's knockout performance in the title role.
