Opinion: Recent police shootings upend the NRA's 'good guy with a gun' theory




On November 11, 2018, Jemel Roberson, a 26-year-old security guard, was shot and killed by a police officer responding to a shooting at Manny's Blue Room Bar in the predominantly black community of Robbins, Illinois, about 20 miles outside Chicago. Roberson was black, while the veteran officer who opened fire -- identified only as a regional SWAT team leader -- is white.
